On 20 Feb 2009, the Year Two students in ESP completed their design projects in the field of Electrochemistry, titled "Nickel Electroplating", where students were expected to carry out electroplating onto copper plate provided in the lab and find ways to improve the quality while studying respective effects.
With materials such as Nickel Sulfamate, Boric Acid, and several chemicals. 10 groups of ESP students carried out their own design of the experiments. Some groups designed their very own plating bath set up to achieve optimal plating solution such as temperature controlling, agitation, stiring, etc. Groups of students strive to achieve the best plating results by reducing pits, improving magnetic properties, uniformity, lustre, etc. Instead of power point presentations, poster presentations were requested by professors, whereby every group will design a poster and deliver a 15-minute presentation.
From the very first design project of Year 2, students started with powerpoint presentations, business presentations and followed by poster presentation. This really gave students an opportunity to appreciate each type of presentation as a form of training before entering the workplace in the near future. Truly, it is an unique experience.
